Bruce Boyd joined TIAA-CREF in February of 1962 and through his career held positions of increasing responsibility. In 1974 he assumed responsibility for all the Group Insurance Products offered by TIAA., which included Major Medical, Life and Total Disability insurance. In 1978 Bruce was promoted to Vice President. In 1989 he was given the responsibility for Product Development and Distribution and in 1992 for rolling out TIAA's Long Term Care product.
Bruce graduated from Lafayette College in 1960 with an A.B. degree majoring in Psychology. He attended the Cornell University Executive Development program in 1976. He has taken and taught numerous insurance courses including those sponsored by the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) and the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He served on and chaired a number of committees of these associations, including the Total Disability Committee and the Long Term Care Task Force. In his capacity as chair of the Long Term Care Task Force he made numerous presentations on behalf of the insurance industry and testified before several congressional committees on their behalf. In 1989 he was awarded the HIAA Founder's Medal in recognition of his service to the health insurance industry.
Bruce retired from TIAA-CREF in 1994 following which he was an independent consultant dealing with health insurance products and issues. Two of the projects which he took on were editing a text on long term care for the HIAA and assisting the HIAA in reorganizing their education program.
